Day 1: Tangier to Chefchaouen
On the first day of your 6-day trip from Tangier, we’ll pick you up from your hotel in Tangier or from the airport/port, and head to Chefchaouen, also known as the “blue city” or “blue pearl”. This charming city is a great spot for photographers due to its beautiful white and blue washed walls. We’ll stroll around the medina and admire the picturesque buildings. We’ll spend the night in a hotel/riad.
Day 2: Chefchaouen to Fes
After breakfast in the hotel/riad, we’ll travel to Fes, the oldest city in Morocco and one of the four imperial cities. We’ll spend most of the day exploring the old part of Fes (the medina) and visit its highlights, including the Royal Palace Gate with its golden gate, the University of Al Quaraouyine (the oldest existing university), the famous Tanneries, and the Jewish quarter. After lunch in a traditional Moroccan restaurant, we’ll return to your hotel/riad for the night.
Day 3: Fes to Merzouga Erg Chebbi Dunes
After breakfast, we’ll pick you up from your hotel/riad in Fes at 8:30 am and begin our journey to the desert. We’ll stop in Ifrane, known as the “Switzerland of Morocco,” for a brief walk, and then visit Azrou, where we may spot Barbary apes. We’ll have lunch in Midelt and then continue our journey to Merzouga, where we’ll ride camels across the Merzouga Erg Chebbi Dunes and spend the night in a desert camp under the stars.
Day 4: Exploring the Sahara Desert
On this day, we’ll have a full day of exploration in the Merzouga desert. We’ll drive through the desert in a 4×4 vehicle and visit a nomadic family near the border of Morocco and Algeria. Later, we’ll visit a village of dark-skinned people, originally slaves from Sudan, where we’ll experience their lifeztyle and listen to Gnaoua music. We’ll spend the night in a hotel/riad.
Day 5: Merzouga to Boumalne Dades
After breakfast in the desert camp and camel trek back to Merzouga, we’ll journey to Dades Gorges through Rissani, an important caravan route during ancient times and the foundation of the current ruling family. We’ll make a stop in Rissani before visiting the Todra Gorges, where we’ll take a walk under the 300-meter-high cliffs. We’ll arrive in Dades Gorges in the evening for dinner and overnight in a hotel/riad.
